Zheng Chongbin captures light and space in a homage to the‘Golden State‘

Engaging with the driving concepts of the Light and Space movement, Zheng Chongbin has cultivated a unique practice whose origins blend East Asia‘s tradition of ink painting with a Western perception of changing environments. His dual education in century-old Chinese figurative painting and contemporary installation and performance art find their synthesis in a body of works that speak a visually intriguing language as he combines the seemingly disparate practices into unprecedented signature paintings and video techniques. The exhibition at LACMA unravels as a focused presentation featuring two video installations paired with painted and printed pieces. Distorted views and abstract forms coalesce in an eloquent conversation that capture the natural landscape of California through an exploration of light, water and movement Zheng Chongbin translates into his signature creations.
