Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia presents Marina Abramović: Transforming Energy during the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.

Curated by Shai Baitel in close collaboration with the artist, the exhibition marks Abramović’s 80th birthday and makes her the first living woman artist to receive a major exhibition at the institution, extending across the permanent galleries and temporary spaces for the first time in the museum’s history.

Bringing historic performances into relation with Abramović’s interactive Transitory Objects, the project places her practice within the material and symbolic world of Venice, where quartz and amethyst echo the city’s long association with rare materials and transformation. A central point of focus is the encounter between Pietà (with Ulay) (1983) and Titian’s late Pietà, presented on the 450th anniversary of the Renaissance painting.
